It was a full house at the first Chamber luncheon of 2019.  Approximately 40 members and guests enjoyed the delicious lunch prepared by Ray Louie and his staff at The Gates on Roblin.

The guest speaker was Laurie Cox, a HR Business Partner with RBC.  Laurie has been with RBC for 20 years, with roles in Leadership, Training and Human Resources. Educated in Adult Learning and Development Laurie has studied and delivered sessions to Leadership teams across Canada on generations in the workplace and how to effectively motivate and mentor each generation. Laurie is an advocate for diversity and inclusion and has led and been a senior member of employee resource groups for Women, Millennials and Cultural Diversity.

Laurie spoke about the dynamics of attracting, onboarding, leading and retaining Millennials.  She talked about  the four generations in the workplace and how it impacts how we interact in terms of coaching, teamwork and career.  She discussed how to leverage the strengths of  the Millennial employee and how to retain them.  She explained what it is that Millennials are looking for when sourcing a job and career and the development opportunities once they are in the role.

Millennials are the largest generation that has moved into the workforce and will make up 75% of the global workforce in 2025 – are businesses and leaders ready?
